We enjoy walking in the Yorkshire dales, having done most of the 2,000ers in the old boundaries that was once North Riding and interested in the Nuttalls - keep adding the lists. Welsh 3,000 also lots of good stuff to do in Scotland - plenty of summits2do MAIN BLOG PICTURES PLEASE CLICK TO ENLARGE ALSO CLICK OLDER BLOGS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE FOR PREVIOUS YEARLY POSTINGS

BOAT HOW, GREAT HOW on ESKDALE FELL and WHINSCALES on ESKDALE FELL

Arrived at Boot in Eskdale mid- morning, the weather was perfect with a slight cool breeze but very clear and warm. After the usual messing around parking and sorting the route out we set off, returning to get the right map and still forgetting my camera. All the pictures today are taken on the iphone.

We climbed through the Eskdale granite outcrops onto the open fell and onto Brat's Moss passing Peat Houses and several impressive stone circles heading for the summit of Boat How overlooking Burnmoor Tarn (one of the largest tarns in the Lake District and Burnmoor Lodge, holding solitary majesty on the far shoreline

Long crossing over bog territory to cross Whillan's Beck and then ascending Oliver Gill with some of the most beautiful falls and rock pools we've seen in the Lakes and not a person to be seen. Ascended the shoulder to the rocky summit of Eskdale Fell, Great How and the followed the spur to Whinscales turning our backs on the amazing view of Scafell and Slight Side which had faced us all day.
