We enjoy walking in the Yorkshire dales, having done most of the 2,000ers in the old boundaries that was once North Riding and interested in the Nuttalls - keep adding the lists. SOUTH DOWNS WAY, BURITON TO EAST MEON

Parked up at the visitor's centre at Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Buriton and  walked through a tunnel under the A3 before heading up Butser Hill. A huge radio mast and trig on the top with excellent views towards Winchester. After a brief road interval we entered Hyden Wood and continued to Hyden Cross - this section is beautiful, great walking country with good paths. We eventually passed the boundary fence of the old HMS Mercury which is know called Mercury Park, nearby is Weatherdown Lodge, a small independent hostel run by the Sustainability Centre. We carried on bu had further to walk than expected to meet our halfway point neat East Meon, but once there we enjoyed a great picnic in a huge corn field before heading back. About 14 miles in just over 5 hours, which for us is pretty good for us.
